Windows PowerShell is the name of Microsoft's new command and script shell.
It includes more than 130 command-line tools, called cmdlets, that allow you to perform typical administration tasks, such as monitoring services and processes, or checking the registry status.
Without a doubt, the most interesting feature of Windows PowerShell is the chance to develop scripts for automating tasks as diverse as: performing object statistics, comparing text files, listing the unique elements of a collection, sorting the information returned by a process, and so on.
All this by means of its usual commands and parameters, which will surely satisfy professionals in the sector who have been longing for a Windows tool like this.
Note: Windows PowerShell requires Windows Service Pack 2 and .NET 2.0. Other versions are available on the author's website for Windows Vista and Windows 2003.
